“I have been working actively as an artist for over 20 years. My first art teacher was my mother. She gave my sister and I artist materials to work with during our summer breaks from school throughout our childhood. My father loved art and our home was filled with it. Dad took my sister and I to art museums and galleries as children. I believe this was instrumental in opening our eyes to the art world.
My sister and I both share a passion for art. She became a fine art photographer after college, while I took a bit longer, starting my art career after serving in the US Coast Guard.
After my service I attended college where I took art and design classes to earned a bachelor in fine art with a major in graphic design. I worked as a graphic artist and designer for over twenty years.
Abstract art always has spoken to me. I feel free when I am creating. Abstract expressionism (which allows an artist the freedom to express them self and release their emotions), in particular allows me to release in that moment. After I have finished a work of art I feel at peace. My joy comes when I create work that moves the spectator to a feeling or emotion. I think that is the wish of every artist.
